reef escape outreach & housing
Reef Escape Outreach & Housing is located in northern Brooklyn. It is an abandoned Power Station, on the toxic shore of the Gowanus Canal, nicknamed the batcave. Since it has become home to a squatter community; i am proposing an outreach center where all community members can seek social, financial, mental and educational aide through organized programming. The lot contains a freestanding, three story building with it's northwest facade facing the canal and it's southwest facade facing 3rd Street. A significant challenge was designing with intent of fluidity and natural forms in contrast to the sharp and angular nature of the existing shell. This building aims to offer sanctuary to the surrounding community while balancing the program, that is distributing knowledge and resources.
